Durga Puja Saptami Night Look: Makeup Breakdown and How to Wear Saree with a Twist

With childlike enthusiasm and with unmatched and unabashed fervor we all are now gearing up for the most anticipated time of the year. Yes, it is Durga Puja time. Time to forget your diet, meet old friends, make some new, spend quality time with family, get drenched in the festive spirit, make merry all day long and of course, it is the time to put your best fashion foot forward.

I so love decking up for Durga Puja and wonder who doesn’t. I love going traditional during these five days of Durga Puja and saree is my ultimate love. Although I love wearing a saree and I would jump at a chance to wear one on every possible occasion, but it doesn’t seem to happen every time in daily life. But at least these 4-5 days I make it a point that I wear sarees only.

So, today I am here to give a sneak peak of how I want my Saptami Look to be. When I was younger, I involuntarily selected a color or colors for each day and somehow while shopping and on the D-days my heart, mind and hands automatically reach to that color scheme. For example, it was always yellow on sashthi, black on saptami, red on ashtami, blue on nabami, and so on. So for Saptami look it had to be a black saree.

I love wearing saree in the usual, formal style, but it’s always great to spice up looks. Isn't? Adding some interesting twists to your saree-draping style can amp up your look while still being comfy. And the best part is, you can achieve it without spending too much time and effort. For saptami, I have chose to wear a saree with a Kurti. Yes, this is one of my current favorites. I picked up a black saree which has fire red and brick red pallu and pleat portion. Complimenting this saree I chose a dark brick red kurti with off-white bagu prints.

Wear your kurti and petticoat first. If you have a pair of well-fitted leggings, you can get away with that as well. Now wear the saree the way you would usually wear, just keep the pallu longer. Now bring the pallu from the right slit of your kurti, make pleats and pin it up on your left shoulder. The pallu will be loose on your right. Hope I am clear. ACCESSORIES:-

I opted for chunky silver jewelry with this look; a pair of big jhumkas, an oversized ring and a bracelet.

MAKEUP and HAIR:-

I stuck to my favorite smoky eyes and soft lips with this. Smokey eyes go really well with silver accessories. So, highlighting the eyes with thick smudged kohl and extra mascara is a must for me.

I left my hair open. Recently I chopped off my hip length wavy locks to this, so can’t really do much other than keeping it open.

So that’s it. Effortless, pretty and unique from the crowd; and as the saying goes, being unique is better than being perfect J

One more thing, if you are going for the look, just make sure you go for printed kurtis if your saree is plain and simple and vice versa. Just make sure the kurti is decently fitted.
