DIY Fashion: Convert Old Shirt Into Dungaree Dress

Hello everyone,

Summers have already started boiling and roasting us. It is just April and I can’t even think of May L. Digesting the fact that there are still about 40 days of summer left..in the best case scenario that is, my heart looks for other ways to engage itself, keep it from thinking about this mind boggling heat. AHA…shopping!! Alas..thats pretty hot too, burns a big hole in your pocket. Hence..DIY time.

I am kind of addicted to dungarees and dungaree dress, and in this sweltering weather, I feel they are certainly ‘a must’, specially the cotton ones. We would have a cupboard of these if we could; but the price tags remain our ultimate enemy. Don’t you agree?! But no more, today I’ll be sharing a super easy DIY, dungaree dress made from an old men’s shirt. There are always a few shirts lying around the house, in the corner of a cupboard, which the men in house no longer wear. It is time to make something fun and creative out of them. They cost you almost nothing and is super easy to make.

This is a pictorial tutorial and an inspired post. I tried to make it as clear as possible. Hope you all like it. And this is my first time doing a “OOTD”, I started fidgeting. Excuse me for that L

Things to Note:-
  • Fabric glue comes off within few washes. It can come off anytime, so stitching is mandatory.

  • A normal running stitch is enough.
  • When you are first cutting the edges of the shirt to give shape to your dungaree, make sure you keep at least ½ inch gap. You can keep 1 inch if you want your dungaree to be lose-fitted. Actually a little loose is better..for obvious reasons.

What are you waiting for? Go and steal your papa’s/husband’s/brothers’ shirt and have fun cutting, pasting and sewing. Shhhhh!!!
